ARTHROPODS


Arthropods have an internal skeleton.
The articulated exoskeleton is formed of hard, small plates. It supports and protects the body.
GROUPS OF ARTHOPODS.
Arthropods are the group highest number.
Arthropods have four groups:



  • Insects. This is the largest group of arthropods. They live on land, but some live in fresh water.
    Butterflies, mosquitoes and beetles are insects.








  • Arachnids. Live on land and are carnivores. They eat insects.
    Spiders and scorpions are arachnids.








  • Miryapods. They live on land under the rocks and stones. They eat insects.
    Centipedes and millipedes are examples of miryapods.






  • Crustaceans. They live in the sea. Their exoskeleton contains a mineral substance that makes them very hard.
    Lobsters, crabs and prawns are crustaceans.
